Pietro Arosio for Sorgente dei Mobili, set of four chairs, model ‘Impronta’, black painted tubular steel frame and perforated metal seat, black lacquered curved wood structure, Italy, 1986s.
This set of four elegant and playful ‘Impronta’ chairs has a very delicate look. The chairs are curvaceous and sculptural and feature wonderful detailing in both seat and legs. Designed by Pietro Arosio in 1986 for Sorgente dei Mobili this stunning set features a black painted tubular steel frame, a perforated metal seat and the backrest, functioning simultaneously as structure, is made of black lacquered curved wood. With a focus on sleek lines, innovative use of materials, and attention to user needs, Arosio has created a range of furniture pieces that marry aesthetics with practicality. His work often reflects a minimalist and timeless design sensibility, contributing to his reputation as a skilled and versatile designer in the field of modern Italian furniture.

Born in Lissone (Milan) in 1946, Pietro Arosio trained professionally in the research centre of a company specialised in the production of metal furniture for collective spaces. From this experience was born a design philosophy that developed over time, through his activity as an industrial designer, which began in 1972 and was already recognised with the ‘Casaviva d'Oro’ award in 1983. Essentiality, research into new materials and technologies, attention to detail and for the engineering phases, are fundamental elements of his work. However, Pietro Arosio does not neglect the emotional aspect of the product, also through collaboration with internationally renowned artists such as Nespolo, Del Pezzo, Hsiao Chin, Tilson, Rotella, Keizo. Some of his works have been exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and at the Die Sammlung modern art museum in Munich.
