Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, the smooth woodwork of this remarkable 1960s teak sideboard reflects the artistry of Danish craftsmanship of the era.
Made in Denmark by Uldum Møbelfabrik this tall sideboards or "highboards" UM-14, designed by Johannes Andersen, is finished in teak wood with exquisite details.
Typical of Johannes Andersen’s design is the sculpted solid teak base and solid teak hand carved handles that resemble delicate and smooth fins.
On the upper part, the outer sliding doors open to reveal adjustable shelvings while the center-left section houses a fabulous mirrored bar area, complete with a slide-out shelf for mixing drinks.
On the other hand the center-right section features two green felt lined shallow drawers with exposed finger jointed corners and an adjustable shelf.
Beyond its aesthetic appeal, its functionality is enhanced by ample storage capacity, featuring on the bottom half six extra drawers, of which four are shallow while two are deep.

Johannes Andersen (1903–1991) was a Danish furniture designer renowned for his significant contributions to Mid-Century modern Danish design. Born in Aarhus, Denmark, Andersen's career spanned several decades, during which he crafted a wide range of furniture pieces known for their elegant simplicity, functionality, and meticulous craftsmanship.
Andersen initially trained as a cabinetmaker before studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. This dual background in both craftsmanship and design laid the foundation for his later success in the furniture industry. In the 1930s, Andersen established his own furniture workshop and quickly gained recognition for his expertise in creating high-quality, handcrafted furniture. He embraced traditional woodworking techniques while also incorporating modern design principles, contributing to the evolving Danish modernist movement.
Johannes Andersen designs were influenced by the principles of functionalism, which emphasised practicality without sacrificing aesthetics. His furniture pieces became synonymous with the Mid-Century modern design era, reflecting the Danish commitment to quality craftsmanship and thoughtful design.
